No Worries World: Lucy Vincent

Living the #NoWorries life means balancing self-care with chasing dreams, and staying motivated when life gets overwhelming.

We caught up with Lucy Vincent, AKA @lovechilds_, the super talented photographer who snapped the beautiful shot for our Sephora endcap to learn how she creates her #NoWorries world.

What do you say to yourself every day to get in the right mindset? In other words, what’s your No Worries mantra?

Just do it! Cliché, I know, but putting all the worry, stress and doubt behind you and just doing it is easily the best thing you can do for yourself. I find that it helps to also ask yourself, “what’s the worst that could happen?” I’m someone who can get really nervous about what people are going to think of a new shoot or project, but as soon as I put all that nonsense behind me, I am a powerhouse!

Whenever you're feeling overwhelmed, how do you keep yourself focused and centered in a world full of distractions?

I like to get up before the sun! It is SO refreshing, I feel like it puts your mind in the perfect gear for the day - plus more time in the day to get stuff done! When I’m in the office editing, I find I can pick up my iPhone and start scrolling through Instagram without even realizing I’m doing it, it’s crazy! So I like to put it out of reach when I need to get something done.

Ocean

How do you escape the daily grind? Do you have a go-to activity to release the day-to-day stress of owning your own company?

In the summer, I spend a lot of time in the ocean! Esperance (where I am located) is such a beautiful, quiet and refreshing place to live. I also love to run, and to be able to run along this coastline - I just feel so lucky. But to be honest, when I’m out shooting it doesn't feel like work. I’m completely in control, I am my own boss, so again I am super lucky!

When did you get the idea to start photography? Has photography always been a passion of yours?

Photography and videography have always been a part of my life since I was little. My sister Bronte enjoyed the spotlight, so I would be the one on the floor taking photographs and videoing her dancing to all the ‘90s hits, trying to get the shot on Dad’s old camcorder. Photography was also my favourite subject at school. It’s safe to say it was the only subject I paid attention to!

What was the biggest challenge you faced when pursuing your career? What did you learn?

It would definitely have to be quitting my full-time administration job. I thought that working for a company on minimum wage was my life, but looking back I am so happy I didn’t settle for that. After I quit my job, I moved back home to Esperance. I had an old drone and camera, and i just started to get up early, shoot everything I could and learned from some pretty cool people. I was super worried about what people would think when I first started advertising Love Childs, but people were coming up to me and giving me such awesome feedback which was incredible.

Do you have any words of wisdom for beauts following their dreams?

Don’t settle. Do something you're passionate about, even if it means just giving it a go. Take risks, learn from other people with similar visions and ask questions! People who are in the same industry as you, do not look at them as competition - be nice and encourage each other. Also, put your own little personal touch on your work to stand out!
